Intimacy Love

Matthew 14:14 – Deeply moved with compassion!

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – the creator God is intimate and present to me.

Matthew 14:14 TPT
[14] So when Jesus landed he had a huge crowd waiting for him. Seeing so many people, his heart was deeply moved with compassion toward them, so he healed all the sick who were in the crowd.

Observation

Jesus is the exact representation of God, so here we see clearly that God is “deeply moved with compassion,” towards us, towards me, towards you, towards everyone. These people were not worthy, good or deserving, they were simply people who came to him. If anything, they wanted to use Jesus to be healed, or set free. We can find it hard to believe that the creator God of the universe could be moved by lowly humanity, and even more so, underserved humanity. Surely we are delusional to think that a God who creates the vastness of the universe would have time or inclination for me. It’s either delusional or decisive in the way we live, one or the other.

So, what if this was correct? What if this was true? What if he did? It says a couple of critical things. Firstly the value of humanity, the value of you and me, to the one who created us. If his love for me moves him to deep compassion that surely must transform the way I see me, and see you. Imagine a humanity that knew their worth, knew how loved they were by love itself, and ascribed great worth and love upon all others. It would change everything. Secondly it declares to us that God is present, intimately so, and intimately interested. He is not the God in the distance, He is not the watch maker God who sets the universe in motion then removes himself, He is the God who is lovingly, intimately engaged in the lives of us each. Again, imagine a humanity who understood themselves and God in this way. One single verse of scripture, if taken as truth by all, would translate into a new way of being for all humanity. We will never ‘succeed’ as humanity until we grasp the personal meaning of who God is to us, “deeply moved with compassion.”

Application

I will allow this to shape me in how I see me, and how I see others. I will lean into His love and compassion, I will celebrate my worth and his presence as the reality of how I live.

Response

Thank you that you are not a hands off distant God, but you created for intimate presence. You had no need but the overflow of yourself, the overflow of love, so you create to give yourself to me. If that’s true then that is life shaping for me.

Meditation

Meditate – he was deeply moved with compassion.

Consider:
How often do I be still to know God’s presence, compassion and love?
Is this the way I see and live? In His compassion and love?
