Gods power and presence Intimacy

2 Peter 1:17 – Turn on the delight

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – the motivation for following Jesus must be found in the pleasure of his presence.

2 Peter 1:17 TPT
[17] All my delight is found in him!

Observation

Speaking of Jesus Peter makes this beautiful and extraordinary statement – “All my delight is found in him!” Can I say that with conviction? I think we can see Jesus as someone to follow, someone to study, someone to ‘imitate,’ but as the source of delight. I think delight should be the focus of our interactions with Jesus. When I delight the more I will follow, when I delight the deeper I will look, when I delight the more intimate the transformation of my being.

Delight requires a personal intimate interaction, you can’t stay removed and be delighted. Delight comes from looking differently, and engaging differently, delight comes from within and is aroused by the beauty, the pleasure, and the joy of the interaction. Disciples delight in Jesus. This is the power of their following. It’s not manipulated motivation but rather delight motivation. Following flows from joy, beauty, and awe in the one I am following. Discipleship can often be framed in the story of the disciplining of my behaviour, but delight discipleship invites the opening of myself to pleasure, the transformation of behaviour flows from the depth of my delight. I know the path I want to walk.

Application

Delight is a different invitation, it’s a different posture of following, I will walk with Jesus allowing him to become delightful and to enjoy his presence profoundly. I will continue to explore the pleasure of walking with him.

Response

Thanks that you capture my heart, you are intimate in your drawing of me to you. Thank you that you delight in me and invite me to delight in you. This is a beautiful way to follow and live.

Meditation

Meditate – All my delight is found in you.

Consider:
What motivates my following?
How delightful is Jesus to me?
