Love

Romans 13:8,10 – Love Says It All.

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today- there are no laws of God other than the law of love.

Romans 13:8,10 NLT

[8] Owe nothing to anyone except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. [10] Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

Observation

Often God is portrayed as the harsh judge administrating His laws upon people who never had a chance of obeying their out-of-reach demands. But God fulfilled the law in Jesus, put the law books aside, and made love the modality of operation that if followed fulfilled everything the law set out to do. “Love your neighbour,” that sums it up, so go and live accordingly.

“Love does no wrong, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.” Could God express it any more simply? But love my neighbours, love others, is not the story that permeates our society. I live in a ‘me first, love self first,’ society. It’s not don’t do wrong to others, it’s do good to self and all else must submit to this law. This self-first love is not the love of God, it’s not the love that releases me and creation into the fullness of life God intended. Give love, not get love is the shape of Heavens love story. It’s other-focused, not self-entitled. It turns the story of radical individualism that has seduced and is shaping this society on its head.

But you do not love like this without being loved like this. This love, this unconditional, uncaused, you don’t need to turn me on or deserve my love, love story is not a ‘natural’ love story of this culture. The classroom of uncaused love is the presence of God, and it’s a participatory classroom. You don’t observe, you don’t learn, you are not inspired and then sent. It’s come and be loved then go be love. If you don’t experience it, you will not have it. Now many people have experienced this love of Heaven without realising they were in God’s presence, but wherever there is this ‘give, others, uncaused’ love there is God. So don’t grit your teeth and try hard, rather come into his presence and rest in His love, then go and mirror your experience to a desperate world.

Application

I will make space in the rhythm of life to be loved to life. I will not grit my teeth and try and love others, I will be loved and go and mirror His loving.

Response

Thank you that you sum up the law, life, in one word – love. When you say love others, you have said it all. Here is life. Thank you that you make it simple and possible. Thank you that you call me to your love and then send me to be your love, and come with me to ensure I have the love I need to give to others. A blessed person knows where life is and is enabled to live it. I am blessed.

Meditation

Meditation truth – “love fulfills the requirements of God.”

Consider:

Am I living a Heaven-shaped ‘others’ love story or have I been seduced by the ‘me first’ world’s love story?

Do I have a rhythm of being loved so I can be love?
