Matthew 5:3 – Only The Poor Get Rich.

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – God works on upside down logic, if you bring nothing that makes you worthy of entry then that is the only way to come into His life.

Matthew 5:3 TPT

[3] “What wealth is offered to you when you feel your spiritual poverty! For there is no charge to enter the realm of heaven’s kingdom.”

Observation

It’s not usual that poverty equals wealth. But Jesus says when it comes to the spiritual if you are able to embrace your poverty then this is the only door to “the realm of heaven’s kingdom.” It’s only when you know that you have nothing to bring to gain acceptance, entry, love, that you find the door wide open. When you march up with your wealth of good works, good life, dutiful obedience, with your prideful riches of deservedness, then you will find that the door is locked. If you can’t accept free entry  then there is no entry. “For there is no charge to enter.” It’s humble, total dependence of God’s goodness with no reference to yours.

The Aramaic word used here “toowayhon” from which we translate the English word blessed, means great happiness, prosperity, abundant goodness, and delight! The word bliss captures all of this meaning. ‘Toowayhon’ means to have the capacity to enjoy union and communion with God. This capacity is available to all who are poor.

How bizarre it is that the doorway to all that the human heart longs for is open, yet so few enter in. Is it that it’s openness has been obscured from view by the false mantra of religion about God only loving good people? Is it that it’s openness and free wealth is too good to be true for us to believe? Or is it that we are so attuned to the cultural song of having to work hard to make it that we just won’t sing to a new tune? Is it’s mystery what we struggle with? Has modernity destroyed our desire and capacity to walk through the open door of mystery and wonder and find a wealth that is not trinkets of gold, but real, true, meaningful, peaceful, love filled, abundance? It’s like God has opened up the lolly shop and put out the “all lollies free” sign, and we walk past, or maybe only peer in. Maybe if we were more like kids we would have our mouths full, hands full, and hearts full of all that was on offer.

Application

I am not missing out on this life. I’ve tried the life the world offers, I have carried its demands and been crushed by its cruelty and sobbed at its total empty promises. I am bringing my poverty and eating my fill of all the life that Heaven freely offers me now. I will not try and pry the door open with my ridiculous and insulting attempts at bringing my wealth of goodness, as if I had any wealth anyway. I will rest and laugh and love in the fullness of Gods mercy, generosity and ridiculousness.

Response

Thank you that throw the door freely open to all who embrace their poverty. This is so upside down and brilliant. Thank you that you have brought this revelation to me and that you have lead me into the storehouse of your abundance. I love living life from inside. I am blessed.

Meditation

Meditation truth – “there is no charge to enter the realm of heaven’s kingdom.”

Consider:

How often do you see your poverty of good works and believe that this disqualifies you rather than qualifies you?

Do you enjoy the freedom of the life that God opens up for you?
