Here is the revelation that is having my life today – we play games with God to impress others and we miss the beauty of his knowing us.
Luke 16:15 TPT
[15] So Jesus addressed them directly. “You always want to look spiritual in the eyes of others, but you have forgotten the eyes of God, which see what is inside you. The very things that you approve of and applaud are the things God despises.
Observation
Spiritual charades are easier to put on than the openness of my heart. So I, the church, create things that I think will impress God and I put on the show. And then we encourage others to join the show. And God is simply completely uninterested, even disappointed and frustrated, by these charades of spirituality. We have to let go of our obsession with outward spirituality and embrace the journey of the heart intimately with God. We must stop pointing at others’ spiritual behaviour and celebrating it when we rarely celebrate brokenness being intimately journeyed through in the intimacy of God. We would rather our spiritual rules be obeyed and displayed than brokenness be embraced and journeyed. So we raise and encourage people to be good at charades.
How do you feel about God having eyes “which see what is inside you?” The way you respond to this will depend on your revelation of God. If God is vindictive and judgemental and cruel, then this is a deep worry. If God is kind, to you, loving you, then his intimacy, his in to me see, is welcomed. I don’t know me. So often I find emotional responses and behaviours in me that I don’t understand, I can’t seem to find the why behind what I do and feel. But I have found that God beautifully brings me into an awareness of the why, which then leads me to a place of possible healing and transformed thinking and behaving. He sees me deeper than I see myself, and he knows the true me, the made in his image me, and he leads me into the fullness of being me. Awareness, listening to what God sees in me, is the start of the journey.
Application
Allow me to be seen inside my heart. Take the contemplative intimate journey of bringing the emotional and behaving me before God, that he will show me the why that I cannot see. And stop the charades, your fooling fools only, never God.
Response
Thank you that you see me so deeply and intimately, I trust you with me I can’t see. I trust your kindness to lead me into healing and trueness. Thank you that you close the curtains on spiritual shows, they can be exhausting. Thank you that the real me can step forward and walk with you. This life of being so deeply known is wonderfully scary and beautiful. Thank you for this life.
Meditation
Mediate – the eyes of God see what is inside you.
Consider:
How do you feel about this?
Has your revelation of God opened you to his intimate seeing?
