Gods power and presence Living abundantly

1 Timothy 4:10 – The non-exclusive God

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today- we too often want to make God exclusively ours. It gives us security, comfort, and power, but he is a non-exclusive God.
1 Timothy 4:10 TPT
He is the wonderful life-giver of all the children of men, and even more so to those who believe.

Observation

God’s love is not exclusive. God is giving himself, life, and love, to all humanity. He is not confined to a sacred place, or a church, he doesn’t restrict himself to those who ‘believe‘ in him or can name him. Everywhere there is love, forgiveness, beauty, peace, mercy, generosity, grace, awe, and wonder, where the presence of God is giving himself. He is the author, the enabler, the revealer of all that is good, all that is life in its fullness, whether the one expressing it, or receiving it, knows his name or not.
God has been confined to certain places, sacred places, but she is clearly hidden in all of creation. It screams him to all who have ears to see. God has been restricted to certain people, but God is walking alongside every journey as we are all spiritual at our core, we have innate spirituality in our makeup, seeking and engaging with him, whether recognised and appreciated or not. The declaration of his name, to know him intimately, enables a deeper level of engagement, “even more”, but is not the key to exclusivity. “He is the wonderful life-giver of all the children of men.”
Rather than the Christian goal being to attract people to our sacred places and have people confess our personalised doctrines, we should help people see God and interpret him in their already spiritual journey and allow God himself to introduce himself in the way he wants to reveal himself. When we recognise we are all on the journey then we can move from the posture of exclusive truth-tellers whose goal is conversion, to fellow journeyers on the same road whose goal is to share the road and the one we are meeting. It’s no longer converted to our interpretation of him, but share our experiences of him. Now it’s a sharing of his beauty, love and life, in each of our lives, not a conversion to sacred places and belief structures. He is personally so much more attractive than what we have reduced him to be in our sacred places and limited revelations. What a better story.

Application

I will change my posture and interaction from conversation and invitation to listening to the beauty of God at work in the lives of others. Where invited I will share my pleasure of him, the life I have encountered in him. Helping interpret his wonderful life-giving to all so that a deeper engagement and appreciation can be enjoyed will be the pleasure I will engage in.

Response

Thank you that you are not exclusive. Love is not exclusive. Thank you that I have experienced your love and I have received your revelation of self that I may receive and journey “even more” into the fullness of the wonderful life you give to all. This is truly a brilliant life.

Meditation

Meditate – He is the wonderful life-giver of all the children of men.
Consider:
Do I have eyes to see God at work everywhere, in all creation, in all people’s journeys?
How exclusive have I made God be?
