1 Corinthians 4:3 -Whose to Judge?

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – so often I sit in judgment over self and others, when I have no capacity to do so.

1 Corinthians 4:3 NLT

[3] As for me, it matters very little how I might be evaluated by you or by any human authority. I don’t even trust my own judgment on this point.

Observation

Judgment of others is a seat we were never made to sit in. We don’t have the capacity, for our sight does not see the heart, our wisdom does not know the history, and so like a deceived jury, we pass judgment of guilt when innocence is the truth. We are faulty at even passing judgment over ourselves, for our judgment is often based on the evil systems of the world and not the ways of God’s kingdom. So don’t judge others and don’t come under the judgment of others. What God says about me, about them, is the only judgment that I can make. So judgments of, part of the family, forgiven completely, loved just as I am, these are the only judgments I can pass upon others and myself. May all other judgments submit.

Judgment affects my sight. The way I judge is the way I see. When I cast judgment upon myself or others, I frame a story that blurs sight and understanding. I respond from judgment for this shapes my story. This is why I am called away from judgment. God is the story shaper. He is the one who passes judgment and then invites me into the beauty of His reframed story. And to quote Game of Thrones “There is nothing in the world more powerful than a good story. Nothing can stop it, no enemy can defeat it.” The story over my life and over the lives of others, as passed.  The judgment of God, is a great story, is beautiful, it’s powerful to release life. And when I shape life on the judgments of God then “nothing can stop it, no enemy can defeat this story.”

For some of us, it’s time we stopped judging self according to the voices of others, the norms and expectation of our culture, and the floggings of our past failures, or congratulations of our past success. It’s time to allow one judge to sit in judgment over our lives, it’s time that He ruled for He is the only one who has the capacity and authority. Let the hammer of God fall on you and walk in the shaping story of His declaration – loved, forgiven, family, adored, forever.

Application

I will remove myself from the seat of judgement and concur with the findings of God over self and others. I will see how ridiculous it is when I sit in the judgement seat. I will recognise how evil lures me into the judgement seat trap. I will shape my stories from the judgements of God.

Response

Thank you that you came to save me and pass judgment of accepted, loved, forgiven, son, over my life. Thank you that you rescue me from my faulty judgments of others and self. How beautiful is life when you know your place. Thank you for putting me in my place. I am blessed.

Meditation

Meditation truth – God alone is the judge of me.

Consider:

How loud are the voices of other judges in your life? How shaping are their verdicts upon your life?

What does your life look like when you submit to the judgments of God? What would change?
