Evil Overcoming Salvation Show all

Psalm 68:19-20 – Salvation and Sonship

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today…

What a glorious God! He gives us salvation over and over, then daily he carries our burdens! Our God is a mighty God who saves us over and over! For the Lord, Yahweh, rescues us from the ways of death many times.

Observation

Salvation is a completed story and an ongoing story. I am saved when I call on the name of Jesus. My sins are forgiven instantaneously, my right relationship with God is completely restored forever, my sonship is established in the family of God, as is my citizenship in the Kingdom. Death is destroyed, and my humanity is restored. All these are completed forever realities at the moment of salvation.

Whilst the story is completed, it is also ongoing. The ongoing work of salvation is to rescue me from the shaping stories of the world that bring death upon me.

I am a great lover, I love like Jesus loves, that is who I am. But I continually need to be rescued into who I am. The world would have me be selfish and love for what I get from loving. I need to be saved over and over again into the fullness of who I am; the fullness of a sacrificial lover like Jesus. I forgive freely, instantly when I am wronged. This is who I am. But I continually need to be rescued into this story as the world seduces me to its revenge seeking stories. I need to be saved over and over again into the fullness of my sonship, the stories of my citizenship, the fullness of my restored humanity. It’s completed, but now I must live in its completed state. And God does not leave me to navigate this path alone; He saves me into that which he has already established.

I am not journeying towards this place – I have arrived in the fullness of salvation at the moment of salvation. It is not half salvation that one day I will grow into, it is full salvation now, mine, forever. But I am saved into that which I have become, over and over again. I do not lack any of the fullness of Salvation, God does not hold anything back from me, it’s all given in the moment, but now I live out of who I am.

His continual rescue from the ways of death is a never ending process, enabling me to be who I am now – the saved me. I am saved over and over again into the already fullness of the saved me!

Application

Understand the fullness of my new life, my saved, rescued life. Then live from this place not towards it. Understand the ongoing work of salvation is the enabling of the fullness of the real me to live forth. Don’t allow the need for ongoing rescue to allow the lies and deception of lack of salvation to shape me. I am not half saved! Expect ongoing rescue, but understand the fullness of already salvation.

Response

Thank you that you never leave your salvation up to me, you enable me to be the who you rescued me to be. I am never alone to try and work out this new life in you, you establish my salvation then enable my salvation, what great blessing. I am made new in you and live new through you. You never rest from your work of salvation in my life. I am so blessed! What a glorious God!

Meditation

Meditate on the saving power of God. Become aware of the fullness of already received salvation within you.
