Matthew 28:17 – The beauty of doubt

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – the journey with God is not the removal of doubt but rather walking with doubt.
Matthew 28:17 TPT
The moment they saw him, (the risen Jesus) they worshipped him, but some still had lingering doubts.

Observation

What is it about doubt? Jesus told them what would happen many times. It then happens exactly as he has said. He stands in front of them as clear evidence that he has died and rose again, just as he said it would happen. Yet doubt lingers! Is it a way of protecting ourselves? Do we fear good news? Are we so disconnected from the mystical, the supernatural realm, that we doubt what we can’t comprehend intellectually? Is Jesus okay with their doubt?
Doubt is not all bad, it’s what we do with our doubts. Faith by its definition is not provable, therefore it makes space for doubt, but is not shaped by doubt. Doubt can make me walk away, or it can draw me in closer for a deeper look. Faith means I rely on God, not on the facts. So there is room for doubts, but I act with doubt in my hands and walk by faith. Evidence will never keep me walking by faith, it’s only personal experience, personal encounter of a deeper kind, a heart kind, that is superior to intellect. This soul, spirit, and faith walking is what God invites us to. He is happy with doubts but invites us to faith walking with doubt in our hands. And he gives us himself not evidence as the foundation of our faith walking. Over time I can change, doubt, what I once believe, but soul, and spirit experience changes me forever.

Application

I will walk with lingering doubts in my hands but faith based on personal encounters as my foundation for my feet.

Response

Thank you that you do not give me evidence that demands a verdict. You give me mystical, supernatural experience of you that enables me to walk with doubt. I love that I do not need to argue with others with evidence but rather point and invite encounters. Thank you that lingering doubts don’t disqualify me, for evidence is not my foundation. I love this life of faith.

Meditation

Meditation -some still had lingering doubts.
Consider:
What do I do with my lingering doubts?
On what foundation is your following founded?
