Overcoming Sin and my stuff ups

Mark 12:38-39 – Beware of religion.

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – religion seduces me into a leadership modality that is opposite to the ways of Jesus.
Mark 12:38-39 TPT
[38] Jesus also taught the people, “Beware of the religious scholars. They love to parade around in their clergy robes and be greeted with respect on the street. [39] They crave to be made the leaders of synagogue councils, and they push their way to the head table at banquets.

Observation

Positional respect, power, and place are all temptations to push for self-importance from a place of religion. And religion enables this and is built for this. It gives the garbs of power, the places of power, and the respect of power to position. And position handled badly brings about the parade of self-importance. Religion always takes the name of God but behaves so opposite to the ways of God. Be aware of this.
We see none of this in the person of Jesus. It’s servant, sacrificial, self-giving leadership. There is no positional parade that demands attention, we only see love and the response to love. Jesus emptied himself of his position of heaven to enter the flesh and world of man, for the sake of others, and us. And he invites us to have his same mind. To think and behave accordingly to his example. How easily and quickly I can be drawn to the garbs and positions of power, they are attractive despite their vulgar ugliness. Yet how beautiful is the self-giving sacrificial love of Jesus, but how difficult it is to get out of the way of religion to walk in this beauty?

Application

I will not serve religion’s entitlement and I will not posture for it personally. I will see Jesus and take on his mindset. I will look to be free from power, position and garb so that I may walk in the beauty of self-sacrificial, self-giving, love.

Response

Thank you that you don’t dress up and make demands from the posture of first. Thank you that you model a more beautiful way of leading. Thank you that love shapes all you do. The robes you wear, the places you sit, the posture and positions you take. It is beautiful to be invited to be shared by love rather than religion, I love this life of love.

Meditation

Meditate: Beware of the religious scholars.
Consider:
Who are you following and why?
How do you lead, and from what position and place?
