Salvation

Luke 10:25 – There is no “I” in salvation

Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – if you try, even just a little bit, if you put your “I” in the salvation story, you miss the whole story.

Luke 10:25 NIV
[25] On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Observation

This question has never stopped being asked. It’s the “I” salvation question. The fallen world has a story of “I” that permeates the way it understands the operating principle of the world. If it’s going to happen “I” must make it happen. So the ‘expert’ comes to Jesus with his “I” question. We believe that we must earn, deserve, and accomplish the required admission tasks whatever they might be if we are permitted into the things, and this then naturally extends to things of God. To get in “I” must….. But this is not the way of God.

The only “I” in God’s economy of salvation is himself. God says ‘you must do nothing to inherit eternal life, nothing! “I” myself have done everything required.’ So every enquiry that is looking for the works lift that “I” may achieve my salvation is flawed in its question. You will never understand, let alone move into it, when you are looking to achieve it. There is no “I” in salvation, there is only a free gift to be received.

Okay, if you must get in on the act, you have to unwrap the gift, but I am not sure that puts you in the story of gift-giving. So many gifts of salvation are left unwrapped, and so much love of God is left unexperienced, because of the “I” question and a failure to believe that something this good comes gift-wrapped with love. God goes ahead of us all in Jesus and fulfils any “i” we think we might bring. Heaven has flung its doors open for thousands of years and still we stand at an open door asking – ‘am “I” welcome, am “I” dressed appropriately, what must “I” do?’ We must submit to the reality that Jesus is the only “I” in salvation. Only then will we inherit eternal life.

Application

Stop asking ridiculous questions. The party is in full swing and I will not miss a day by trying to work out if “I” have done enough to party. I will not submit myself to the “I” dogma of this world, I will live in the incredible beauty of God’s open door to all who would come policy. From here I will live my life in awe and gratitude.

Response

Thank you for this new story of complete acceptance and right standing as a free gift with no “I.” Thank you that you never transact, love never transacts, it only ever gives itself, and you show me that, and I experience this heaven love in your presence. Thank you that this love is transforming my heart and life. I love becoming a lover like this. This is a beautiful life with you in the full free gifted inheritance or eternal life now.

Meditation

Meditate- what must “I” do?

Consider
How often do you stand outside asking the question have “I” done enough, and then feeling disqualified from love’s presence?

How often do you find yourself celebrating the beauty and freedom of no “I” salvation?
