Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today- life is not what I see – true life is coming.
2 Peter 3:13-14 TPT
[13] But as we wait, we trust in God’s royal proclamation to be fulfilled. There are coming heavens new in quality, and an earth new in quality, where righteousness will be fully at home. [14] So, my beloved friends, with all that you have to look forward to, may you be eager to be found living pure lives when you come into his presence, without blemish and filled with peace.
Observation
“Wait!” What an ugly word nowadays. It seems to me that nowadays we are so caught up in the immediacy of today, that we have no sight of our tomorrows. We won’t wait for a table, let alone wait for life. The passions for life that God has placed within us each are misinterpreted as having to be filled in this moment. We want to microwave the life we desire, we want it now. Stick your wait!
And when it doesn’t come, or when disappointment, pain, struggle, come, or when unfair, uninvited robbers walk into our lives taking from us the life we have been working so hard to create, we fall apart. Some fall into such despair that they finish their pursuit for life. It’s like we have on dark glasses that stop us from really seeing what is ahead of us.
Peter wants us to see with greater clarity. There are new heavens and earth that are coming, where all the beauty, glory, and life of intimately walking right in the presence of God is yours. Where the life, the home, you have been yearning all along and trying so desperately to create, will be yours and you will wear it like your favourite comfortable well-worn sweater. “So, my beloved friends, with all that you have to look forward to,” use it to shape your life today. Don’t allow today to be your shaping story, let your assured future shape the fragile of your today. Wait, there is an amazing life close by.
So as we wait, be eager to live out of this future. Live like it is here now. Live a life that represents where your real life will be lived out. This is a call to be your true self. Live pure, showing mercy and forgiveness to all, being loved, and being love, resting continually in peace, and being a vessel of peace. Knowing you are a citizen of the new heaven live heaven now. Your a prophet of the life that is coming to all who would choose to enter.
Application
I will exercise the trust that is the foundation of wait. I will live this five-second life now with trust “in God’s royal proclamation,” that eternity is coming and it will be new and amazing. I will not fall into the frustration that this life is the stage that must fulfill all my desires, I will know that my passionate desire for life is experienced in part here and fulfilled there. And when the stage plays a tragedy I will trust that there is a great ending already written in my script.

Thank you that you assure me of your future for me. Thank you that your love for me stretches its desire into eternity with me. As ridiculous as that sounds, I will live knowing it to be true. Thank you that you give me all I need to wait! I am blessed.

Have I lost sight of the assured future eternity that God has promised?
Am I shaping my here life based on the script presented to me today without reading the ending?
