Here is the revelation that is shaping my life today – how easily I live without a deep appreciation for the amazing gift of salvation.
1 Peter 1:23 TPT
[23] For through the eternal and living Word of God you have been born again. And this “seed” that he planted within you can never be destroyed but will live and grow inside of you forever. For:
1 Peter 1:5
[5] Through our faith, the mighty power of God constantly guards us until our full salvation is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Observation
Peter shares the three states of our Salvation.
We have been saved, born again, by the seed he planted in us. And this is a completed work that can never be destroyed. We did not work to get implanted by seed, the seed is present and planted, and we say yes to its release. So don’t think that anything you do can then somehow affect the seed, or displace the seed. You did not work at salvation, it was all the planted seed, and the one who planted it within you. So you don’t work, so you can’t fail, so you can’t lose your salvation. So relax, the seed is planted, and it’s secure forever. Celebration, peace and awe at God’s goodness, is the appropriate response to this free seed. You have been saved and that will never change, so love being saved and do as you please.
We are being saved, as the seed planted “will live and grow inside of you forever.” This is the ongoing work of becoming who we are, the born again, made in his image, true self me. This transformative work is within the seed. Much like a tree grows not by its efforts but because the seed planted has the inherent activity of growth within it. So my growth is a work of the spiritual seed planted in me, it is not by my efforts alone. I can work with the working of the seed, but the power within the seed is the transformative power. Just like trees, some grow large and strong and become a strong part of the world in which they are planted, some struggle as the conditions of growth are not fostered. Their being trees is never in doubt, but their beauty and fulfilment of their intended life require their partnering. So it is with the seed of salvation within me.
Finally, we will be finally saved, fully saved, This is when we see God fully, with unhindered freedom of sight and experience, we will be finally transformed into the fullness of our true self as we see God in his full form. Again, this is secure, guarded by God “constantly” to ensure that you will be fully his, fully saved, fully you.
1 Peter 1:12, Peter goes on to explain how incredible this salvation is, even the angels are amazed, “This gospel containing wonderful mysteries that even the angels long to get a glimpse of.” I wonder at times how amazed am I, how in awe am I, at the magnificence of the gospel, at the magnificence of what is mine, of who I am, of what I have been given? Angels are amazed, and I too often take it for granted! Securely saved, transformatively being saved, finally guaranteed full salvation, all by and through him, and all for me, that I may be the true self, in an intimate relationship with the one who created me in his image. Maybe it’s time for awe and wonder and deep thanks!
Application
Live in the security and transformative power of the seed of salvation that is planted, growing and assured within me. Remind myself how amazing this gift is, and how amazing I am in living in the true self of its declaration. Live free, bold and in awe.
Response
Thank you for the seed of salvation and all it releases me into. Thank you that I do not create, plant, or grow the seed, but I host its expansive presence by joining in all its fullness being released. This is truly an amazing gift for all salvation, thank you that I am journeying with you in its release as the most precious thing in life. I love living saved, in all its states.
Meditation
Meditate – this “seed” that he planted within you can never be destroyed but will live and grow inside of you forever.
Consider:
How securely do I live in the past tense of my have-been-saved state? Do I ever feel disqualified from its security?
Does the assurance of full salvation shape my life in the present?
